UPDATES - IAN
(Newest entries on top)

Saturday, 10/1/2022

Friday, 9/30/2022

- SISE Weather Impacts Report by Dave Jones, see video below

- Virginia issues Ports Sector update, see below

- Electric Sector Update:

Ian is expected to make a second landfall as a Category 1 or possibly Category 2 hurricane north of Charleston, SC, on Friday afternoon. The storm is expected to dissipate rapidly as it moves inland, but strong winds and heavy rainfall remain a risk throughout South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia through the weekend. As of Thursday, September 29, power has been restored to nearly 1 million customers impacted in Florida with approximately 2.7 million outages remaining.

Mutual assistance networks are activated and more than 44,000 mutual assistance workers from at least 33 states and the District of Columbia are mobilized and ready to support response efforts once it is safe to do so.

Initial damage assessments are underway in Florida and indicate that transmission infrastructure remains largely intact. Access to barrier islands and beachfront areas is limited, and responders are using drones to assess the extent of damage in inaccessible areas. Responders also are experiencing intermittent communications challenges as wireless telecommunications systems with fewer operational cell towers become overwhelmed.
