The Healthcare Sector Supply Chain- “From Manufacturing to the Last Mile”

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), with the support of HHS/ASPR, various government agencies across the New York metro area, and the Emergency Preparedness Coalition of Manhattan (EPCOM), will be providing a first-time overview of a DHS Regional Resiliency Assessment Program (RRAP) product that includes:

• a comprehensive report identifying key findings and gaps in the Healthcare Supply Chain for the NYC area with nationwide application;
• detailed profiles for the specific areas of Med-Surge, Medical Gases, Blood Products, Pharmaceuticals and Linens as related to the national supply chain to the “last mile”;
• and, a useful interactive tool and other products for use by key stakeholders including distributors, manufacturers, healthcare providers and key public agencies and organizations.

 
Who should attend?

• Representatives from the Healthcare sector ranging from hospitals and other medical facilities, including supply chain specialists, emergency management departments and administrators.
• Distributors, buyers, manufactures and any organizations supporting or dependent on the healthcare Supply Chain
• Public officials supporting supply chain management requirements during normal and emergency operations for the healthcare sector. This would include state and federal departments of health, federal/state/city emergency management offices and related transportation organizations and offices.
• Transportation system operators from highways, to ports, to air and rail.

 
Why is this important?
 With the increasing Supply Chain “just in time” approach for critical and high cost healthcare items an understanding of supply chain constraints and gaps during major disasters has become critical for emergency operations.     The dependency on international sources and specialized transportation has increased vulnerability.  Understanding scenarios impacting manufacturers, distributors and healthcare end users could help address long term shortages in the future.    The RRAP report, profiles, interactive tool and future exercises clarify all of the above.
