Daily Private Sector Resource Reports

In the fall of 2012, Super Storm Sandy impacted the East Coast and particularly the areas of New Jersey and New York City.

The All Hazards Consortium, upon request from the impacted states, quickly turned to its private sector partners for assistance.

Working with Hughes Network Systems, a global satellite communications company in Maryland, the Consortium quickly assembled an EXCEL spreadsheet of data that reflected the “open or close” status of hundreds of thousands of fuel, food, hotel, and pharmacy locations throughout the East Coast.

As was learned later, this spreadsheet data became a central planning tool for the federal government response effort during the first two or three days of the storm.

Daily reports were issued by the Consortium and used by both state and federal operations people to assist in the response. Additionally, private sector utilized this data to position their central personnel and assist with routing inbound utility fleets from around the country and Canada.

New Business App

In 2014, the private sector members of the Multi-State Fleet Response Working Group [which was formed post Sandy] developed this spreadsheet into an online application that can now be used nationally to support private sector and their response and recovery efforts by providing local, regional, or national situational awareness on private sector resources.

The FLEET OPEN / CLOSED business app in now a live, operational service being used by operations professionals around the U.S.

Below are some screen shots of the app showing various regions and the home screen.
