Are You Overlooking Operational Inter-Dependencies
In Your Business Continuity / Disaster Recovery Plans?
A new service offering can help you

Picture
A new service offering that can you help address impacts from plans by state/local governments
and other sectors that you reply upon for running your business

Overview
Operational "inter-dependencies" between a company and their business partners, public agencies, and other sectors have always been an overlooked or at least under-served aspect of  Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery plans. Many questions need to be addressed:
  • Do your current business continuity plans address any inter-dependency issues with government or other sectors?
  • How can state/local government agencies impede your business recovery efforts and how do you work with them?  (e.g. transportation, emergency management, law enforcement, health, etc...)
  • Have you identified all of the primary and secondary sectors that you rely upon operationally to stay open for business?
  • How are your supply chain companies impacted by state/local governments as they move goods across state lines to help you recover?
  • Who are the people you need to know in government and other sectors to help you  begin to address these issues?

It is within this "inter-dependencies" environment that the AHC provides unique Business Continuity / Disaster Recovery services that will help you begin to  address the complex nature of this topic, organize an approach, and adjust your BC/DR plans to include any impacts to your company from state/local government and other sectors whom you rely on operationally.

By leveraging its vast network of states and multi-sector companies, the AHC is the only organization today that help help you address these issues for your company and plug you into a proven 10 year old integrated planning system that provides education, training and exercises/drill to help

Our Approach uses the same standard Business Continuity / Disaster Recovery (BC/DR) approach used across all industries with a new focus on your inter-dependencies with other sectors and government.

The benefits of the AHC's Business Continuity Inter-Dependencies Services would include:

  • A high level understanding of critical operational inter-dependencies with government or other sectors your organization's ability to recover in a timely manner
  • Organizational awareness of inter-dependencies related weaknesses in business in your present recovery strategies
  • Development of a matrix listing identified inter-dependencies weaknesses, impacts to your current BC/DR plans, and way to be addressed
  • A clear understanding of the high level contingencies to be put in place

Service Outline
The AHC's Business Continuity / Disaster Recovery services are offered to the private sector in the following simple modules:

1. Inter-dependencies Business Threat Assessment – The Inter-Dependencies Business Threat Assessment helps your company to understand which organizations you are the most dependent upon operationally and which threats to those organizations could have the most significant impact on your company. This activity is performed under a non-disclosure agreement and includes both public and private organizations (e.g. state/local government agencies, companies in energy, telecommunications, transportation, food, water, health, etc..):

  • Events that could occur within your facility (usually part of your normal BC/DR plans)
  • Events that could occur in your community or state
  • Event that occur within your region
  • Events that occur in the sectors that your critical functions reply upon

2. Identify Critical Inter-Dependencies Functions – This step involves identifying and mapping your company's critical functions to their inter-dependent functions in other sectors. This step help you identify what public an/or private organizations can directly impede you business restoration efforts.

3. Inter-Dependencies Business Impact Analysis – This step merges steps 1 and 2 to help your prioritize which inter-dependencies to address first based on your current BC/DR resources and efforts.

4. Inter-Dependencies Prevention and Mitigation Planning – This step will help you identify the sequence of steps that need to be taken to help prevent damage from inter-dependencies and restore business operations.

5. Implement and Maintain the Plan – Your BC/DR plan will be updated so that you can review it annually and  drills can be conducted annually with states and other sectors  to be sure the plan is working as designed. The AHC integrates your organization into the drills it already conducts with states and multiple sectors as part of the CATEX exercise series.
