AHC REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION (EVACUATION PLANNING) WORKSHOP
Part of the FEMA Regional Catastrophic Planning Grant Program (RCPGP)

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW
On August 30-31, 2010 the All Hazards Consortium (www.ahcusa.org), in partnership with Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and the National Transportation Research Board (TRB), will host a Regional Transportation (Evacuation Planning) Workshop focused on catastrophic evacuation planning within the FEMA Region III geographic footprint.  This workshop is being conducted as part of the FEMA Regional Catastrophic Planning Grant Program (RGPGP).  There is no cost to attend for invited guests.

The vision for this workshop is to convene a meeting of the transportation related stakeholders from both public and private sectors; review existing transportation planning efforts; determine the current status of the FEMA Region III transportation related common operating pictures; and determine gaps (in planning, policy, technology, solutions, etc.) for future planning and implementation efforts.

WORKSHOP DETAILS
The workshop will be held at the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Headquarters located at 500 Fifth Street NW, Washington, D.C. 20001 (www.trb.org).  Attendees will include federal, state, higher education and invited private sector participants, as well as transportation and emergency management associations (both planning and implementation functions):

  • Bring together key state transportation leaders for collaboration (facilitate dialog and build relationships)

    • Federal research and methodologies on regional transportation evacuation planning (research, projects, methodology, etc.)
    • State specific transportation evacuation planning efforts
    • Regional transportation evacuation planning activities

Plan and Coordinate
  • Review current approach to regional transportation evacuation planning

  • Discuss necessary modifications in current regional transportation evacuation planning

The workshop will be held at the Transportation Research Board – Keck Center, Room 100 (part of the National Academies of Science) headquarters located at 500 Fifth Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001 (click here for directions). 
 
Public parking garages are available within the vicinity but metro is strongly recommended.  The closest metro stations are Gallery Place Chinatown (7th Street Arena Exit) and Judiciary Square (Nat'l Building Museum / Police Memorial Exit).  Both metro stops are a 2-block walk to the Keck Center.
